Youth Development Staff – 21st Century After School Expanded Learning Programs 

(up to 35 positions available)

Multiple locations

Varied Days and Hours – Up to 2.5 - 3.0 hours per day (schedules vary)

Up to 5 days per week, after school hours

**New Employee Salary Rate: $15.74 per hour through 12/31/2023, changing to $16.28 per hour beginning 1/1/2024

**Returning Employee Salary Rate: $16.24 per hour through 12/31/2023, changing to $16.28 per hour beginning 1/1/2024

 

DESCRIPTION: 

The goal of the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) is to raise math and literacy levels, improve academic performance, strengthen social relationships and provide meaningful opportunities for students in the After School Expanded Learning Programs. 

 

The Youth Development Staff (YDS) will report directly to the 21st CCLC Site Coordinator at their designated site. The Site Coordinator coordinates and supervises all 21st CCLC Program activities. After School Programs will utilize online platforms to conduct program activities and homework support until in-person school resumes.

 

Experience or desire to work with elementary or middle school students. Comfortable learning and using behavior management strategies for working with groups of youth. Ability to communicate well with students, staff, and parents. Comfortable encouraging, motivating, and assisting students with homework. Bilingual communication skills are highly valued but not required. Experience supporting low-income students from culturally diverse backgrounds is preferred. Ability to uphold privacy and confidentiality requirements. Build positive relationships with students as an adult role model and mentor. Assist in the development, preparation, and implementation of enrichment activities and community building. Assist elementary students with homework including academic software programs. Actively work on a team to maintain a safe, healthy learning environment. Collaborate with team members to improve program quality and student experience. Support Site Coordinator with record keeping and data collection. Maintain cleanliness and organization of program space. Work with students individually, in small groups, and lead large group activities. Manage student behaviors in all program areas. Work in a noisy and crowded environment. Work outside in all types of weather. Assist in communication with families, including parent phone calls. Attend professional development opportunities including those which may occur outside of typical work hours.

QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or current Running Start student. College students or college graduates preferred. Experience or desire to work with elementary and/or middle school students. Comfortable and confident with math concepts (elementary and middle school level). Ability to relate well with students, staff, and parents. Strong human relations skills. Student management skills. Bilingual preferred. Experience working with low-income students from culturally diverse backgrounds is preferred.
