Grounds/Irrigation Tech __ Trades I

Maintenance and Operations

8.0 hours per day/ 260 days per year

Salary Schedule:  $25.65  -  $27.75 per hour

 

DESCRIPTION:  Maintain school grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities. The Grounds Irrigation Tech is assigned specific properties and is responsible for the complete grounds maintenance and management of those properties. Receives written work orders or verbal instructions from the supervisor. The full range of landscaping includes but is not limited to mowing, edging, pruning, weed control both chemical and manual, fertilizing sidewalk, and parking lot cleanup of debris caused by landscaping activities and conditions. Perform or arrange for the proper maintenance of all grounds equipment. Perform or coordinate all cultural practices related to Athletic Field and Landscape maintenance. Maintain, repair, and manage irrigation systems. Athletic field striping and maintenance. Maintenance of playground facilities. Maintain all hardscapes such as backstops, basketball poles, parking lot signs, fences, and playground toy equipment. Operates snow removal and sanding equipment to maintain sidewalks and parking lots. (Requires some late night through early morning work.) Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery as necessary. Drives service trucks as required; load and unload materials and supplies. Assist departments in moving district material between properties. Communicate effectively with members of the district and community. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned. Other duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of experience in turf, grounds, and irrigation maintenance.  Experience in athletic turf or golf course maintenance.  A valid Washington state driver's license.  Documentation from DOL of safe driving record.  A valid Washington State Dept. of Agriculture Public Operator Pesticide License or ability to obtain within twelve months.  Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities in: soil components, amendments, and analysis; irrigation maintenance, repair, and management practices; full range of athletic field cultural practices.  Safe operation and basic operators’ maintenance of all manner of grounds maintenance machinery and tools.  Able to communicate effectively and work together with all staff and the community to provide the highest level of customer service.  Self motivated, able to prioritize, work independently under minimum supervision, and yet remain flexible.  Physically fit, able to safely lift 80 pounds and work a full shift in all manner of adverse working conditions.  Attendance and punctuality are critical to this position.  A knowledge and/or skills test will be administered.

In addition, a background check, based on fingerprints, will be requested from the Washington State Patrol & FBI.  Employment is conditional based upon completion of the record check.
